Israeli Krav Maga has one goal: to get the untrained, inexperienced – and possibly unfit – new recruit combat ready in the shortest/quickest possible time. Those coming into the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) have little time to spend mastering a martial art, before they are placed on active duty, and so they require a system of hand-to-hand fighting, which is easy to pick up and quick to learn, and which will be effective under the stress and duress of a violent attack. Krav Maga uses reflexive actions and responses, along with a few common movements that can be used and reused against a number of different threats and attacks. This makes it an extremely efficient system of self-defense, for those who have no prior training. By recognizing the realities of violence, Krav Maga techniques and solutions are designed to work when a person is tired, exhausted, and caught by surprise. In real-life violent incidents you do not get to prepare yourself for a fight in the same way that somebody stepping into the ring or cage gets to do. Krav Maga was never designed to be a sport and functions under the conditions of real-world violence. If you are interested in learning more about why Krav Maga is so effective in real-life confrontations, you can watch a series of short videos, with Head Instructor, Gershon Ben Keren, explaining some of the fundamental principles and concepts upon which Krav Maga is founded by clicking here.
Krav Maga is designed to deal with attacks and assaults at every range of combat, and in every dimension e.g., if you are standing, seated, or lying down, Krav Maga has solutions to the types of attacks and threats that you may face etc. Krav Maga also prepares you for how to deal when fighting in confined spaces, where there is little or no room to move etc. Whilst a Boxer or MMA fighter must learn ringcraft, and how to work when on the ropes or against the cage etc., when preparing to deal with real-life violence the Krav Maga practitioner must learn to deal with violence in bars, pubs and on public transport etc., where they may have to fight in an enclosed and possible moving platform. Whilst the ring and the cage are designed to allow fighters to demonstrate their skills and abilities etc., no such luxury is afforded to those who are attacked in real-life scenarios. While A BJJ practitioner may be able to demonstrate complex and intricate sweeps and turnovers expertly on an uncrowded/uncluttered mat they may find executing these same techniques somewhat difficult when they find themselves hemmed in by table legs on a crowded bar floor, with multiple people kicking and stomping them, as they try and submit/tap out their aggressor. When it comes to dealing with real-life violence context is important and where the fight takes place is relevant.
Krav Maga teaches defenses and solutions to violence where both multiple attackers and weapons are present. The majority of muggings and street robberies are committed in pairs or in groups (most violent crimes are committed by young people who tend to socialize with others before committing their offenses), and so any solutions need to accommodate this fact. Even if it appears that an assailant is unarmed and alone, it should be assumed that this isn’t the case. This is the position and the reality from which Krav Maga techniques and solutions are based.
At Krav Maga Yashir, we teach authentic and relevant Krav Maga that comes directly from Israel. We don’t combine the system with other martial arts such as BJJ and Muay Than, as Krav Maga Yashir is a complete system that teaches punching, kicking, groundwork and grappling etc., and does so based on the realities of real-life violence. Using straightforward and reusable movements along with scenario-based training, Krav Maga gives you the tools to survive actual confrontations, whether this involves de-escalating an aggressive encounter, or defending yourself – and/or others – from a knife attack etc. The system that has been used by the IDF for over 60-years, and that has proven itself to be effective multiple times will equip you with the skill, techniques/solutions and knowledge to deal with every type of violent assault you may potentially face.
